The idea
Why keep it this small?
A thought shouldn't need a filing system before it can exist.
minddump came from wanting somewhere simple to put thoughts down while they were still fresh. Not a polished publishing workflow and not a complicated knowledge-management system — just a place where writing could happen quickly.
The project is intentionally narrow. Its identity comes as much from what it leaves out as what it includes.

The approach
Reduce the distance between thinking and writing.

Small enough to browse without managing it.
The archive should make old thoughts easy to return to without demanding folders, elaborate taxonomies or constant organization. The goal is a lightweight personal record, not another system to maintain.

Design decisions
Restraint was part of the feature set.
Writing first
The content carries the page. Interface elements stay secondary so the act of writing remains the obvious next action.
Quiet hierarchy
Typography, spacing and subtle dividers do most of the structural work instead of cards, heavy controls or decorative UI.
Deliberately small
Features have to justify the friction they introduce. The project avoids growing into a general-purpose notes app simply because it can.

Under the hood
Enough infrastructure to keep the experience simple.

A small product still needs a dependable foundation.
The project uses Next.js for the application and Firebase for its persisted data. The technical layer stays intentionally straightforward so most of the project's complexity remains in the experience rather than infrastructure.
This section is intentionally limited to the implementation details established for the project. More specific architecture can be added here as the project evolves.

The details
What makes something minimal feel intentional.
Typography over decoration
Type scale and spacing establish hierarchy without needing heavy containers around every piece of content.
Low visual friction
Muted interface elements keep attention on reading and writing instead of constantly advertising available controls.
A narrow purpose
The project stays centered on capturing thoughts rather than absorbing every adjacent notes or productivity feature.
Room to breathe
Whitespace is functional: it gives short pieces of writing enough presence without making the interface feel empty.

What I learned
Small doesn't mean unfinished.
Knowing what not to build is part of building well.
minddump is an exercise in resisting unnecessary complexity. A minimal product can't rely on feature count to feel complete, so details like hierarchy, rhythm, copy and interaction become much more noticeable.
The useful lesson was that simplicity is not the absence of design. It is deciding what deserves to remain after everything optional has been questioned.
